Milan Budhathoki brings geospatial skills to the Notre Dame community in research, consulting and teaching. He is specialized in GIS analysis, spatial data management, web GIS and server applications, and remotely sensed data processing. Prior to joining the CRC, he worked for local/state government and academic research in Massachusetts. He implemented a number of innovative GIS projects for the Town of Brookline, including an interactive map gallery to showcase the town’s geo-physical and demographic information to public, and also provided GIS training to town’s staff to support better decision-making in citizen services. During summer/fall of 2011, Milan enjoyed working for MassDEP (Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection), where he performed QA/QC of environmental data, delineated wetlands, and built a geodatabase for a site remediation monitoring plan.

Milan has also worked as a research assistant to professors in diverse projects at Salem State University, MA, where he graduated summa cum laude with a Master’s degree in Geo-Information Science. Some highlighted projects with which he was involved include: studying the local food landscape in Massachusetts, in which he analyzed the spatial pattern and distribution network of CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and CSF (Community Supported Fishery), and developing an interactive map of voting trends in the City of Lowell. Milan also holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science from Pokhara University, Nepal, and experience working for an environmental consulting firm in Nepal.
