The CRC at Supercomputing 2013.
Researchers from the University of Notre Dame will participate in Supercomputing 2018 (SC18), an international conference for High Performance Computing (HPC), networking, storage, and analysis. Throughout the event, staff and faculty affiliated with the Center for Research Computing (CRC) will share their work via presentations and workshops with more than 375 exhibitors and 11,000 conference attendees in Dallas, TX.
Each year, those from industry, academia, and more attend SC18 to learn about the latest advancements, trends, and challenges effecting the field of computing. In discussing this event, Jarek Nabrzyski, director of the CRC and professor of the practice and a concurrent associate professor of computer science and engineering, said, “Each year the CRC utilizes the annual Supercomputing conference as an opportunity to network and collaborate with other universities or organizations in this distinct field. This year we look forward to that opportunity as well as the several presentations our faculty and researchers will give to showcase how Notre Dame is contributing to HPC, cyberinfrastructure, and more.”
In addition to hosting booth 4219, more than 10 faculty members and staff from Notre Dame will participate in SC18 workshops, presentations, and panels. Notre Dame presenters will cover topics such as clouds and distributed computing, research reproducibility, and computational workflows.
For example, Sandra Gessing, research assistant professor of computer science and engineering, will lend her expertise in both a workshop on workflows in support of large-scale science and to a panel on sustaining research software. Additionally, Douglas Thain, professor and associate department chair of computer science and engineering, will present at a workshop on reducing workflow resource consumption and a paper on resource management.
The event begins Sunday, November 11 and ends Friday, November 16. The CRC will highlight multiple Notre Dame research groups and affiliated projects, including the Center for Shock Wave-processing of Advanced Radioactive Materials, the Center for Social Science Research, and the Notre Dame Global Adaptation Initiative’s Urban Adaptation Assessment.
